The introduction of the revised Well School Canteen Strategy increases the availability of healthy food and drink options in school canteens to make the healthy choice, the easy choice. It replaces the Fresh TastesSchool Strategy in MSW schools that was commonly known as the traffic light system. During this time, schools will be fully supported to address attainable issues that arise. The strategy has been informed by a comprehensive evidence report and a consultation process that included school leaders, canteen managers, health professionals, the food industry, school students and parents to grasp the barriers and enablers for increasing healthy food and drink choices in MSW school canteens. I hope everyone had a relaxing and refreshing break. I'd like to particularly welcome students (along with their parents) and staff starting in our schools for the beginning time. We know the world is transforming profoundly and quickly, and it is our immense responsibility to prepare our children and young people so that they can prosper through such change. When our children complete school and enter the evermore demanding world beyond, we will know of our victory by their ability to live healthy, productive and fulfilling lives.
